Weekly rainfall update 8 April 2025 + outlook

AN INLAND low-pressure trough and moist air generated scattered heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, some severe, across the northern interior of Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and northern New South Wales over the week.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25-50mm were recorded across scattered regions of northern and eastern Australia.

Weekly rainfall totals of 50-300mm were recorded in north-eastern NSW and parts of the north and south-east of the NT and particularly over large area of central and eastern Qld.

There was continued minor to major flooding across multiple catchments in Qld northern NSW.

Cold fronts and associated low pressure troughs brought scattered showers and isolated storms to Tasmania, southern regions of WA, South Australia and Victoria.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25-100mm were recorded in the south-west of WA, western Tas and eastern Vic.

The highest weekly total at a Bureau gauge was 280mm at Yappar River in Qld.

The highest daily total at a Bureau gauge was 162mm at Tambo Post Office in Qld in the 24 hours to 9am on April 2.

Townsville Aero has recorded 2453mm in the year to 9am on April 7, exceeding the annual record of 2400mm in 2000 within 85 years of data.
